The transition from high school into a career is a critical time in a young adult’s journey to achieving their goals. A local nonprofit is seeking to help young adults overcome obstacles to making that happen through their internship program.
Communities in Schools of the Heart of Texas‘ internship program currently serves about 100 students between the ages of 16 to 24. This internship program allows our Waco youth the opportunity to gain experience in the workforce area, while being paid to do so. Malik Lewis, a current participant in CIS’s internship program, looked at the opportunity of the internship as a way to gain more experience before entering college. “(I saw it as) a step to being ready for college, having a job and the responsibilities of a job and saw it as an opportunity to learn, so I took it” Lewis said.
The program aligns with Prosper Waco’s goal of increasing employment for residents ages 16 to 24.
