A new partnership between McLennan Community College and a Texas nonprofit organization is helping residents become financially stable by offering free certified nursing assistant courses twice a year.
In its second year, Waco Independent School District’s summer internship program has doubled in student size, the amount of experience offered and the number of businesses participating.

After months of waiting, Mission Waco’s grocery store Jubilee Food Market, has been certified by the U.S. Department of Agriculture to take SNAP payments. The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, or SNAP, is expected to help increase traffic to the store.

A local church has created its very own full-day childcare academy. Family of Faith Worship Center Christian Academy will serve children ages three to five and will operate from 7AM to 5:30 PM Monday through Friday.
Thanks to a nearly $600,000 Episcopal Health Foundation grant, the McLennan County Community Health Worker Initiative will be implemented in the Greater Waco community in the coming months.
On Sept. 29, the Waco ISD School Board approved a $103,000 partnership with Klaras Center for Families-Heart of Texas Region MHMR. The partnership will place a case worker and either a licensed professional counselor or a licensed clinical social worker on the Brazos High and Middle School Credit Recovery Center, and the GL Wiley Opportunity Center campuses.
The Texas Success Initiative, also known as the TSI, is a required test for new students entering college who didn’t have high enough scores on their ACT or SAT.
On Sept. 19, Prosper Waco will host its second community-wide event. The community first came together in February of 2015 to identify what issues the initiative should focus on.
