Transitional Housing Unveiled for Homeless Waco ISD Families

Local organizations have collaborated to create a transitional housing program for homeless Waco ISD families. Sanctuary House, a short term emergency housing program, was unveiled Wednesday, April 27.

The house is a collaborative effort between Waco Independent School District’s Homeless Outreach, the Waco Housing Authority, the local Salvation Army and Junior League of Waco.

Waco ISD estimates about 1,200 of its students are homeless. Eligible families can stay at Sanctuary house for up to 30 days and will be connected to resources with community partners to help them move to permanent housing.

Providing students with stable housing is a step in the right direction to minimizing factors that get in the way of educational success. To keep up with the local educational measures Prosper Waco is tracking, visit our Data Dashboard.
