Fair Housing Month: Expanding Access to Housing in Our Community

Updated: 41 minutes ago

Each April, Fair Housing Month highlights the importance of ensuring that everyone has access to safe, stable and affordable housing. It is also an opportunity to look at the broader role housing plays in shaping the health, stability and economic mobility of our community.

In Waco, housing continues to be a critical issue. As our community grows, rising home prices and rental costs are making it more difficult for many individuals and families to find and maintain stable housing. These challenges are closely tied to homelessness, reinforcing a simple but important truth: homelessness is fundamentally a housing issue.

Addressing these challenges requires a coordinated, community-wide approach. Through its Fair Housing and Homelessness initiative, Prosper Waco works alongside partners to align data, strengthen systems and expand access to a range of housing options that support both prevention and long-term stability.

As we look ahead to May and National Affordable Housing Month, the focus continues on increasing the availability of housing that is accessible and affordable for all. Expanding housing options is one of the most effective ways to reduce homelessness and create stronger, more resilient communities.

Together, these national moments serve as a reminder that access matters and that continued collaboration is essential. By working across sectors and focusing on housing solutions, our community can create a stronger, more stable future for all.
